The Richmond Hill Sports Hall of Fame will induct two men with starry stories from the Ontario Junior Hockey League later this month.
Retired player Michael Cammalleri and coach Mark Joslin are part of the Class of 2025.
Also scheduled to be inducted during the Jan. 30 ceremony are Canadian fitness expert and retired World Wrestling Entertainment professional wrestler Trish Stratus and minor hockey builder Brian Penrose.
Michael Cammalleri – The former NHL hockey star and Richmond Hill native had a distinguished 15-year career playing in over 900 games with five different teams (Los Angeles Kings, Calgary Flames, Montreal Canadiens, New Jersey Devils, Edmonton Oilers).
Cammalleri starred for the Bramalea Blues in what’s now the OJHL for two seasons. A year after being named league rookie of the year, he recorded 103 points (31 goals/72 assists) in 41 games for the Blues in 1998-99.
A second-round selection (No. 49) by the Kings in the 2001 NHL Draft, Cammalleri represented Canada internationally, winning gold at the 2007 World Championship and silver at the World Junior Championship in 2001 and 2002.
Mark Joslin – A trailblazing coach and mentor, Joslin has played a pivotal role in developing young hockey talent at both the grassroots and professional levels, including Connor McDavid and Mitch Marner. He made history in 2021 by becoming the first black coach to lead a National Women’s Hockey League team.
The reigning Coach of the Year in the OJHL, Joslin has been involved at elite levels of the game for more than 20 years, much of it in the OJHL. Currently head coach and general manager of the OJHL’s King Rebellion, Joslin has also coached in the OJ with the Brantford 99ers, North York Rangers, Aurora Tigers, Pickering Panthers and Stouffville Spirit. Joslin was named OJHL Executive of the Year in 2018 during his four-year run as GM of the Toronto Patriots.
Located in Elgin Barrow Arena, the Richmond Hill Sports Hall of Fame was established in 1993 to recognize the exceptional sports achievements and contributions of individuals who were born in or live in Richmond Hill, or teams that represent Richmond Hill. Overseen by a volunteer committee, there have been 62 inductees dating back to as early as 1885 celebrating the city’s rich sports heritage.
The sports hall will also honour two Community Sport Ambassadors posthumously for their exceptional service and dedication to the local world of sport:
- Mary Parkinson – A longtime community advocate, Parkinson’s dedication and tireless contributions helped shape recreational hockey in Richmond Hill
- Bruno Sposato – Known for his commitment to youth sports, Sposato is the very epitome of what it means to be a hockey fan. For many, his passion for the game, the players, coaches, and families, was synonymous with hockey in Richmond Hill
The public is invited to join this event and welcome the new inductees.
