COLLINGWOOD WINS OJHL TITLE WITH OVERTIME VICTORY AT HOME

The Collingwood Blues are the 2022-23 champions of the Ontario Junior Hockey League.

The Blues won 2-1 over the Trenton Golden Hawks in overtime tonight in front of 1,178 fans in Collingwood to win their best-of-seven Nutrafarms Championship Series in five games.

It was the third straight game of the series that went to overtime.

The Blues received the Buckland Cup and a berth in the 2023 Centennial Cup national championship tournament May 11-21 in Portage la Prairie, Man.

They’ll open the tournament May 11 against the Manitoba league champions. Steinbach leads Virden 3-1 in the Manitoba final.

Collingwood goalie Noah Pak was named the OJHL playoff MVP.

The Blues, the North-West Conference regular season champions, went 16-2 during the OJHL playoffs while winning four series. The Yale-bound Pak played every minute of those 18 games, while sporting a .947 save percentage and a 1.37 goals-against average.

Mark McIntosh scored both goals for the Blues, including the winner 2:53 into O.T.

Lucas Robinson had given Trenton a 1-0 lead at 15:40 of the first.

Shots on goal favoured Collingwood 27-24.
