“Playing for the Collingwood Blues was the best year of my life,” Chau, 21, told the OJHL. “Our team bonded from the start, and created life-long memories together. This journey taught me invaluable lessons in teamwork and perseverance, making it an unforgettable experience.”
“I’d like to thank my family, coaches and the Collingwood community. I’m excited to continue my hockey career at Hobart and William Smith Colleges.”
Chau helped the Blues win their second straight OJHL championship and the Centennial Cup, as national Jr. A champs.
“Calum was a player on our radar for a number of years,” said Collingwood General Manager Mike Tarantino. “Jordan (Selinger, Director of Hockey Operations) and I were very familiar with his game back to his minor hockey days with the Oakville Rangers where he played with (Blues goaltender) Noah Pak. When the opportunity arose to acquire Calum, we knew we were getting a great hockey player as well as a quality person to add to our hockey team.
“Calum has been better than advertised. His hockey sense, and ability to think the game is in the upper echelon of players we have seen at this level. Hobart is a great fit academically and athletically since Calum also excels in the classroom. Even though Calum only spent the one year in Collingwood, he made an immediate impact and was a key cog to the Blues Buckland and Centennial Cup championships. We wish Calum all the best at Hobart.”
Chau joined the Blues for his final year of junior hockey following two seasons with the Ottawa-area Navan Grads. He scored four goals and added 46 assists in 52 games during the 2023-24 OJHL regular season.
“From Day 1 of joining the Blues we knew Calum was capable of big things in our program,” said Collingwood Coach Andrew Campoli. “He has great vision and his ability to read and identify threats and opportunities are second to none. Calum was called on during all situations and handled each moment like a true professional. We’re excited for Calum and his family and are looking forward to following his hockey journey at Hobart next season.”
Congratulations to Calum and best of luck in the NCAA!
