Zander Veccia of the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Collingwood Blues has confirmed his commitment to join the Western University Mustangs in London, ON beginning with the 2025-26 season.
Veccia, who turned 21 on July 27, joined Collingwood last season after four years in the Ontario Hockey League (Mississauga, Guelph).
The forward from Ridgetown in southwestern Ontario scored 21 goals and added 26 assists in 30 games with the Blues last year.
“I’m extremely grateful to have played for the Collingwood Blues and appreciate everything the organization has done for me during my time there,” Veccia told the OJHL. “My experience in Collingwood is something I’ll never forget. From the boys, to the staff, my billets and the entire community, it was a special place to finish my junior career.
“Both as a player and a person, I’ve grown tremendously, and I owe a lot of that to the environment I was surrounded by. The culture in Collingwood truly pushed me to reach beyond what I thought I was capable of, ultimately helping me earn my commitment to Western University. I couldn’t be more excited to start this next chapter and I’m looking forward to getting started at Western.”
The Collingwood staff wishes Veccia well at the next level.
“We are very happy for Zander and his family on his commitment to play at Western University next season,” said Collingwood Head Coach Andrew Campoli. “Not only was Zander a key player for our team, he was also someone the younger players looked up to and a great role model.
“His ability to score timely goals was matched by an infectious love for the game, community, his billets and his teammates. We thank Zander for his time in Collingwood and are looking forward to following his hockey journey at Western.”
“Zander was a great teammate and role model during his time in Collingwood,” said Mike Tarantino, Collingwood’s General Manager. “He is fiercely competitive and was a key player down the stretch for our club. We wish Zander all the best at Western and know he will have a similar impact”.
Congratulations to Zander and best of luck in U SPORTS and the OUA!
