Former Ontario Junior Hockey League defenceman Simon Wang has been named to the Ontario Hockey League’s Second All-Rookie team for the 2024-25 season.
The 2025 NHL Draft prospect played just shy of two full seasons in the OJHL for the King Rebellion/Brantford 99ers’ franchise before joining the OHL’s Oshawa Generals full-time in 2025.
Wang was named OHL Rookie of the Week April 28 after helping the Generals take a 2-0 series lead over the Barrie Colts in the Eastern Conference Final.
Selected by Oshawa in the fifth round (83rd overall) of the 2023 OHL Priority Selection from the North York Rangers U16 AAA program, the 17-year-old defenceman appeared in 32 regular season games with the Generals this season, recording two assists.
Wang spent the majority of the 2024-25 campaign with King, registering four goals and 18 assists in 38 games.
The 6-foot-6, 210-pound blueliner was ranked 34th overall on NHL Central Scouting’s Final Draft Rankings ahead of the 2025 NHL Draft. Born in Beijing, Wang is committed to NCAA Division I Boston University.
OHL all-star and all-rookie teams were selected by the OHL’s general managers, with voting conducted in two stages beginning with a cconference ballot followed by a final ballot that integrated the top selections from both the Eastern and Western conferences.
A total of 13 of the league’s 20 member teams are represented on this year’s all-star and all-rookie team selections, with the OHL champion London Knights fielding a league-leading seven for the second straight year. The Eastern Conference champion Generals trail with five players included while the Saginaw Spirit and Windsor Spitfires each feature four.
