OJHL PLAYERS, OFFICIALS HONOURED DURING ONTARIO HOCKEY ASSOCIATION AWARDS CELEBRATION

Ontario Junior Hockey League players and team officials took centre stage during the Ontario Hockey Association’s 2025 Awards Celebration in the Toyota Auditorium at the Cambridge Centre for the Arts June 7.

Colton Smith of the Leamington Flyers was named OHA Player of the Year and a member of the association’s Top Prospect Team. The 2024-25 OJHL MVP and Canadian Junior Hockey League Top Forward is committed to NCAA Division I Clarkson for next season.

Flyers teammate Marcus Vandenberg is the goalie on the Top Prospect Squad. 

Collingwood Blue Cameron Eke, the CJHL and OJHL Defenceman of the Year, was also named to the team. Eke is committed to NCAA DI Niagara.

Jonathan Kapageridis of the Cobourg Cougars received the BJ Monro Trophy as Top Prospect across the OHA for this month’s NHL Draft in Los Angeles. Kapageridis has commitments to North Bay (OHL) and Vermont (NCAA).

Kenny Burrows, the Governor and General Manager of the OJHL’s Stouffville Spirit, received the Gold Stick Award. The honour “is an order of merit in hockey awarded by the OHA for outstanding service to the game other than as a player. Such outstanding service must have been for a period of not less than 10 years continuous duration.”

Dr. Johanna Carlo, Team Athletic Trainer of the OJHL’s Lindsay Muskies, received the Female Leadership in Hockey Award.

About the Ontario Hockey Association

The Ontario Hockey Association (OHA) was founded on November 27, 1890, and is the governing body for the majority of Junior and Senior hockey in the Province of Ontario.  The OHA is a Member Partner of the Ontario Hockey Federation which is one of thirteen Provincial and Regional Branches of Hockey Canada

The OHA is comprised of three Junior hockey leagues and two Senior hockey leagues: Junior A – Ontario Junior Hockey League; Junior B – Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League; Junior C – Provincial Junior Hockey League, Senior  – Allan Cup Hockey (AAA) and Ontario Elite Hockey League (AA). The objectives of the OHA are to foster and encourage the sport of amateur hockey, to conduct competition in the various categories established, to determine teams for entry into the inter-branch competitions that may be provided by Hockey Canada, and to provide for the affiliation of other hockey organizations.
