ON THE FLY AND OJHL REELS: LEAGUE PRODUCING NEW SERIES OF ONLINE CONTENT THIS SEASON

September 7, 2023, Mississauga, ON – The Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) will produce two online shows during the 2023-24 season, the league announced today.

OJ on the Fly and OJHL Reels will replace the OJ Today. Both shows will be housed on the league’s Instagram account (ojhlofficial), YouTube channel (@ojhl5080), its website (ojhl.ca).

The first of 36 OJHL Reels episodes is being released today to coincide with tonight’s opening of the OJHL regular season. OJHL Reels will focus on the league’s 24 teams, special events, OJHL alumni news and college commitments made by our players during the season.

OJ on the Fly is a five-minute highlight package. Eighteen episodes will be produced this season. On the Fly will air every second week beginning Sept. 13.  The OJHL will also work to make episodes available during the broadcasts on FloHockey.

Both shows are being produced and hosted by veteran junior hockey TV host/producer/videographer Alex Bastyovanszky.

“OJHL on the Fly and OJ Reels are exciting new ventures I’m proud to be a part of,” Bastyovanszky said. “It’s been a pleasure hosting and producing ‘The OJ Today’ since 2015, but with the rise of social media and the importance of getting shorter, targeted content out there, it was important for us to pivot in this direction.”

“Fans can look forward to fast-paced, informative content that will showcase the best of the OJHL. With the Oakville Blades hosting the Centennial Cup this season, the 2023-24 OJHL campaign promises to be one of the best in recent memory, and I can’t wait to get started’.

OJHL Commissioner Marty Savoy welcomes the new-look productions.

“The OJHL leadership team went through a strategic review of content offering and made the decision to pivot to more content being developed through our social media ecosystem,” said Savoy.  “The process includes a cadence of monthly meetings with our 24 teams’ social media staff to align content and messaging.“

“Moving from the 30-minute “OJ Today” to the “OJ on the Fly” will allow for fresher content for fans of OJHL teams and our players.  This combined with the Opendorse platform for the distribution of content through our players and team staff, OJHL Images, FloSports and the league social media channels provides a stronger delivery of the OJHL brand to fans, sponsors, scouts and supporters of our players.”

The OJHL regular season begins tonight with games in Leamington, Brantford and Caledon. There are 10 games on the schedule Friday.
