COLLINGWOOD TAKES 3-2 LEAD IN OJHL NUTRAFARMS CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES WITH HOME-ICE WIN

The Collingwood Blues have taken a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven Ontario Junior Hockey League Nutrafarms Championship Series.  

The Blues defeated the Trenton Golden Hawks 7-2 in Game 5 in Collingwood Friday night. 

All five games in the series have been won by the home team.

Game 6 will be played Monday in Trenton. If necessary, the seventh game is scheduled for Wednesday in Collingwood.

The hometown Blues held period leads of 1-0 and 2-1 before exploding for five goals in the third period.

Mark McIntosh led the Blues with two goals. Singles came from Cameron Eke, Dylan Hudon, Spencer Young, Calum Chau and Damen Boose.

Shots on goal favoured Collingwood 48-35.

“Our mindset coming into tonight was focusing on our habits, executing our game plan and ensuring we won the puck battles,” Collingwood Head Coach Andrew Campoli told the OJHL. “All four lines, six D and (goaltender Noah) Pak did their jobs tonight and we got the result we wanted.

Attendance was 1,240 at Eddie Bush Memorial Arena. 

The winner of the series gets the Buckland Cup and a berth in the Centennial Cup national championships in Oakville May 9-19.

The OJHL champions’ first game at the Centennial Cup will be played May 9 against the champions of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.
