The 20-year-old from Scarborough began his OJHL career in 2019-20 with the Cobourg Cougars. He joined the Lindsay Muskies ahead of the COVID-cancelled 2020-21 season. He signed with the Trenton Golden Hawks the next year.

McDonald played in Trenton and Collingwood this year before being traded to the Buzzers.

Steph was a great deadline addition for us,” Buzzers Head Coach and General Manager Rich Ricci told the OJHL. “He brought size and speed to our lineup. An exceptional penalty killer, Steph also proved to be a force offensively.”

“I can’t say enough about him, great in the dressing room and a great teammate. Elmira is getting a real good player and person.”

McDonald had 13 points during 19 regular season games with the Toronto-based Buzzers. Three of his goals were of the game-winning variety.

OJHL grads on the Elmira roster this season included: Amedeo Mastrangeli (Markham, Whitby), Kyle Curtin (Toronto Patriots),  Jordan Gonzales (Buffalo) and Cole Tucker (North York, Toronto Patriots).

Elmira head coach Aaron Saul played junior for the Ajax Axeman, a now-defunct OJHL franchise. The Scarborough product was named head coach of the Soaring Eagles in 2007.

Congratulations to Stephan and best of luck in the NCAA!

The OJHL, the largest Jr. A hockey league in Canada, has had more than 90 NCAA, U SPORTS, CHL and professional commitments in 2021-22 – including more than 25 NCAA Division I scholarships.
