David Green of the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s St. Michael’s Buzzers (photo credit – Tim Bates | OJHL Images) has confirmed his commitment to join the NCAA Division I Merrimack College Warriors in North Andover, Mass beginning with the 2025-26 season.
The 2006-born defenceman had 17 points in 42 games while serving on the power play and penalty kill for the Buzzers last season. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound 17-year-old would be named to the OJHL’s Second All-Prospect Team.
The Toronto resident, who will graduate from St. Michael’s College School this year, will be relied upon heavily again by the Buzzers this season.
“We are really happy for Greener,” said Buzzers Head Coach and General Manager Rich Ricci. “He and his family put faith in us to develop him. He had options in the OHL but chose the school route. It was right for him.”
“He is a dedicated player that is confident but still aspiring to get better. He’s on course for a big season. Hopefully, he gets on the NHL’s radar for the draft this year. He’s going to be a very good D-man, when you project him out with four or five more years of development.”
Green was a fifth round pick of the Sarnia Sting from the Toronto Marlboros U16 team in the 2022 Ontario Hockey League U16 draft.
“Playing in the OJHL as a 16-year-old last season was an invaluable experience that helped me learn and grow as a player,” Green told the OJHL. “The OJHL provided a platform for me to develop my skills, compete at a higher level and learn from veterans. The exposure to scouts and the opportunity to showcase my abilities on a larger stage, especially at the OJHL Governors’ Showcase and Prospects Game.”
“Playing at St. Mike’s has also been an amazing experience as well. The tradition is like no other and playing under coaches Ricci and Criscuolo has helped me grow as a player and, more significantly, as a person. Being able to attend such a great school and then take a short walk over to the rink is also something not many other junior teams have and is one of the things that first enticed me to St. Mike’s last year.”
Why Merrimack?
“The visit to Merrimack is what really sold me on committing there,” he said. “One of the most notable things was definitely getting to see such a fantastic campus in such a great setting. The goal of winning is a big part of their culture and is something that really attracted me to their program. The people surrounding the program were also extremely positive and were what I was looking for, making the decision easy.”
