Team West won the second annual Ontario Junior Hockey All-Star Skills Competition 20-15 over Team East during the 2023-24 OJHL All-Star Celebration presented by Dairy Farmers of Ontario at Eddie Bush Memorial Arena in downtown Collingwood Friday night.

The two-day event continues on Saturday with a pair of games featuring the best players and top prospects from across the 24-team league.

Individual skills event trophy winners were:

  • Hardest shot – Carson Lloyd (Georgetown Raiders) 104 km/h; won tie-breaker over Riley Pitt (Cobourg Cougars)
  • Accuracy shooting –  Dylan Hudon (Collingwood Blues), four targets on six shots in 14 seconds, edging out Dimitri-Alexander Tzaferis (Wellington Dukes)
  • Fastest skater – Jonathan Morello (St. Michael’s Buzzers), 12.73 seconds
  • Top goaltender –  Gavin McCarthy (Oakville Blades), stopped all nine shuts during the showdown, the final event of the night.

The Skills Competition was managed by Top Shot Hockey. The Ontario company operates skills challenges for Junior A, professional and minor hockey leagues. The company, which runs the ECHL all-star skills event, designed and produced the electronic targets used in the accuracy challenge by the NHL in Tampa and San Jose.

Ben McCully of ROCK 95 Barrie served as on-ice MC, interviewing players and announcing results.

Collingwood Town Crier Ken Templeman officially welcomed participants and fans to the community.

Saturday’s schedule will kick off with the OJHL Alumni Game at 10:30 a.m, followed by the Hudl-InStat OJHL Prospects Game at 1 p.m. and the OJHL All-Star Game at 5 p.m.

The highlight of the weekend, the All-Star Game will feature the top players from the 24-team league as selected via the OJHL’s All Star selection process.
