COBOURG’S TREVOR HOSKIN VOTED OJHL MVP

April 17, 2024, Mississauga, ON – …. Trevor Hoskin of the Cobourg Cougars Is the Most Valuable Player in the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Leading Scorer for 2023-24, the league announced today.

Hoskin already won the scoring championship after finishing the regular season with 100 points. Hoskin accumulated points at an astounding clip of 1.92 per game.

His 42 goals included nine game-winners, four while shorthanded and nine on the power play.

OJHL general managers and media members who voted on the league awards aren’t the only ones who noticed Trevor Hoskin this season.

“Multiple NHL clubs have been scouting Hoskin,” TSN hockey insider Darren Dreger said on X last month.

True. Representatives from 10 NHL teams have talked to Hoskin or his family advisor this season, the player said.

Hoskin missed four games while representing the OJHL at the World Junior A Hockey Challenge in Nova Scotia in December.

An assistant captain in Cobourg this season, the third-year Cougar is committed to NCAA Division 1 Niagara University for next season after receiving multiple scholarship offers. He’ll be joined on the Purple Eagles’ Incoming class by Cobourg linemate and close friend Andy Reist.

The Belleville resident signed with Cobourg following his U16 AAA in Kingston.

A rookie season of 29 points was followed by 61 in 2022-23, only to be totally upstaged by this year’s century mark.

It’s been an award-filled season for Hoskin.

The MVP at the OJHL’s Eastern Canada All-Star Challenge in Trenton in November, Hoskin was voted the OJHL Warrior East Player of the month for October.

At the World Jr. A Challenge he was the leading scorer and selected to the all-star team as a member of silver medal winning Team Canada East.

“Probably the best experience I’ve had,” Hoskin told the OJHL of his week wearing the maple leaf in Truro, NS last December. “It was run so professionally. We were on a tight schedule; had to be in our rooms at a certain time, no phones… The fans were just unreal. We played in front of full houses every night. Just seeing all those kids with their signs cheering us on.

“Anyone would want to represent their country and to have the opportunity to do that was pretty special. I’m gonna have that memory for the rest of my life.”

The Cougars are justifiably proud of their MVP.

“Trevor is a very important member to our team,” Cobourg Coach Connnor Armour told the OJHL. “Seeing him develop not only as a player but also a person has been fun to watch. He’s got a bright future in hockey.” .

Trevor Hoskin will be honoured along with the other OJHL award recipients at a ceremony before Game 1 of the OJHL Nutrafarms Championship Series in Collingwood Friday night.
