Canada East will look to regroup at the 2024 Junior A World Challenge in Camrose, Alberta, Tuesday.
The East squad, featuring 13 players from the Ontario Junior Hockey League, meets Canada West for unofficial national bragging rights during the four-team event. Puck drops at 9:30 p.m. ET
Both Canadian entries lost on Monday, during Day I of the tournament.
United States 8, Canada East 0
Jack Hextall, Lucas Van Vliet and Mason Moe tallied one goal and an assist apiece.
Teddy Mutryn and Austin Baker chipped in with two assists each.
Brett Arsenault (Charlottetown, PE/Summerside, MHL) was named Player of the Game for Canada East.
“I thought we were better at the end than we were at the beginning,” said Team Canada East head coach Bruce Richardson (Pincourt, QC/Valleyfield, LHJAAAQ). “We killed off their 5-on-3 power play, but obviously we didn’t generate anything offensively. We were defending all game, and when that happens it’s hard to score. The positive is that we were better as the game went on and the players know they are capable of competing.”
“We have to move forward; it’s a short-term tournament and tomorrow is a new day. We know we will play Saturday, and we have to try and get better through the week, so we are focused and ready on the weekend.”
Sweden 10, Canada West 2
Anton Frondell scored twice shorthanded, added a power-play goal and chipped in an assist for a four-point night for Sweden.
Ivar Stenberg scored twice and added an assist.
Connor Miller (Lipton, SK/Humboldt, SJHL) and Allen Sherpa (Calgary, AB/Drumheller, AJHL) replied for Canada West.
Today’ other game has Sweden meeting the United States at 5 p.m. ET
