Chris Engelbert of the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Markham Royals (photo credit – Ray MacAloney | OJHL Images) has confirmed his commitment to join the NCAA Division III University of Wisconsin Stevens Point Pointers beginning with the 2024-25 season.
The 21-year-old from Whitby began his OJHL career as an affiliate with the Cobourg Cougars in 2019-20.
After the COVID-19 cancelled the following season, he spent 2021-22 with Timmins of the NOJHL and 2022-23 with the Toronto Patriots in the OJHL.
In Markham last season, Engelbert scored 13 goals and added 30 assists in 50 games.
“Chris was great for us in Markham and a huge part of our success this season,” said Mike Galati, GM/Head Coach of the Royals. “He was a guy we used in all situations. A leader on and off the ice. Very excited to watch him grow as a player and person in the NCAA. Congrats, Chris, and good luck”
Chris’ brother, Jamie, starred at Cobourg of the OJHL before five years (2019-24) at NCAA Division I Providence College.
Congratulations to Chris and best of luck in the NCAA!
The OJHL has had more than 45 NCAA Division I scholarship commitments already this season.
