The Trenton Golden Hawks erased an early deficit and completed a first-round sweep with a 4–2 victory over the Lindsay Muskies on Friday night at the Lindsay Recreation Complex, advancing to the second round of the postseason.
Lindsay struck first in the opening period, getting goals from Meyers at 3:06 and Rai at 9:18 to build a 2–0 lead after twenty minutes. The Muskies carried the early momentum and outshot Trenton 14–11 in the period.
Trenton began its comeback in the second period when Ziliotto converted on the power play at 11:05, finishing a setup from Digiantommaso to cut the deficit to one heading into the third.
The Golden Hawks took control early in the final frame. Just 1:11 into the period, Darlison tied the game on a power-play goal from Digiantommaso and Bridgewater. Less than a minute later, Penny gave Trenton its first lead of the night, scoring at 1:59 to make it 3–2.
Kuipers added insurance midway through the period with another power-play marker at 5:15, finishing a feed from Penny to extend the lead to 4–2. A heated sequence shortly after the goal resulted in multiple fighting majors and game misconducts as emotions boiled over between the two teams.
Despite being outshot 39–29, Trenton goaltender Drillen-Roach was solid when needed, stopping 37 shots to secure the win. Lindsay’s Cote made 25 saves in the loss.
Trenton finished the night 3-for-7 on the power play, while Lindsay was 0-for-5.
With the victory, the Trenton Golden Hawks complete the series sweep and move on to the second round of the OJHL playoffs.
